Pre Elampsia

Post by Karen on Wed Mar 03, 2010 2:28 am

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you strong amazing ladies suffered from pre eclampsia, and that was the reason why?
I had pre eclampsia with my daughter who had to be delivered by emergency C section at 32 weeks, thankfully she is a healthy beautiful little girl who is coming up to her third birthday!!
I lost my beautiful baby boy Thomas due to pre eclampsia also at 32 weeks, we couldn't save him and he was born still 21st July 2009. We were told if I had been delivered 2 days before when I was at the hospital for a check up then he would be here with us today.

xx

Re: Pre Elampsia

Oh that is so sad...I didn't suffer from pre-eclampsia, although was rushed into hospital at about 5 months pregnant with George after going to bed with a headache and waking up unable to see anything with no feeling in my legs, racing heart and throbbing head, nausea and dizziness. Turns out it was a migraine with aura, and once they had sedated me for 24 hours I woke up fine. Terrifying though. At one point I could hear the Dr and the nurse talking about me and George, and how if it was pre-eclampsia there was little they could do to save my baby at this stage! Horrible!

Re: Pre Elampsia

I suffered it at the end of my pregnancy,
I was rushed in to hospital 2 weeks before my due date and told by my midwife i would get induced asap to get baby out,
But hospital had other ideas,
I was left in hosptial untotuched for the 2 weeks then on my due date i was finally give a scan and then told my baby was 7lbish so they started to induce me 2 times daily i was given pessarys with no help,
Then on term +2 i was given a gel which made my waters break,
I had irregular contractions so they decided to send me HOME after being in hospital for over 2 weeks with pre-eclampsia,
I went back 2 days later as baby was still sticking and i was put on a hormoan drip which caused me to start pushing within an hour,
Owen was then born at 40 +5 and was rushed into intensive care as he wasnt breathing right due to an infection cos he was inside me too long with no waters,
He had to stay into intensive care for 2ish weeks but was fine in the end...thankfully,
Was sooo scary tho thinking after 5+ years ttc and fertility treatment i could have easily lost my baby cos the hospital were useless twats,
xx

Re: Pre Elampsia

Post by Karen on Mon Mar 08, 2010 2:22 am

I have been told by my consultant that I have a 90% chance of suffering from Pre Eclampsia with any subsequent pregnancies, and that I will always be delivered before 32 weeks.
Its a scary thought that either I or my baby will be poorly due to this condition, (with my daughter I was very poorly but she was healthy, and we lost our beautiful Thomas but I was ok) and does make me think if I would be able to go through that again.............
My consultant has said that there is no reason why I shouldn't have another baby when we are both ready, but how can you ever be ready for that huge emotinal and physical rollacoaster that Daniel, Isabelle and I will go through????
Some days having another baby is all that I can think about, not to be a replacement for Thomas in anyway!! and other days the thought of being pregnant scare's the life out of me!!
I suppose only time will tell when and if we will ever be ready!??!??

Wow its crazy some of the things these hospitals will sit on isnt it, I now know from other peoples storys that to be VERY demanding and to insist that things are done is the only way that things will actualy get done, this is crazy, how they get away with some things it really is

I know Kirsty,
With my next pregnancy, (hopefully we will have another baby) I will be so demanding - I know I'm gonna be awful but that is going to be the only way I will be able to cope!!
